Swathi: A Success Story!
Swathi Shetty is from a small, rural village in Udupi District and was raised by her mother after losing her father at a young age. Determination has shaped every chapter of her journey. Excelling in her academics, she secured 98% and 97.33% in Pre-University College and gained admission into a reputed law program at SDM Law College. However, without a stable household income, Swathi faced overwhelming barriers and needed to travel four hours daily to college because she could not afford hostel accommodation. Receiving the Samatva Scholarship transformed her experience: it covered her college and hostel fees, allowing her to fully participate in academics, legal training, and internships. Swathi has since interned both with a human rights NGO and a corporate law firm, developing a strong understanding of justice from both the grassroots and institutional perspectives. Passionate about defending human rights and ensuring fairness in legal systems, she aims to pursue a master’s degree at a leading university and advocate for those whose voices are often unheard. Swathi credits Samatva for financial relief and for restoring time and stability to her life, enabling her to become the lawyer she dreams to be.
